BM Institute of Indian Music- Online Music Classes..

            Setting up

BM Institute of Indian Music has a very good classroom set-up with the following                 equipment :

  • a high configuration PC
  • a powerful fiber (wired) internet
  • a clear voice headphone with mic (Microsoft lifechat)
  • top angle camera focusing the keyboard fingering
  • good lighting etc
  • noise free environment

Students should also set up their equipment properly for the classes, as it will give a live environment and will make their learning process smooth.

Check the following points while setting up for the classes.

1. Internet : Try to have a wired internet connection (i.e the PC/laptop should be connected to the router through a cable)

If there is no provision for wired internet, then the keyboard set up should be done very close to the internet router, so that the signal strength is very good.

We practically see many students having the router in one floor and attending classes from another floor or from a room which is at a distance from the router. In such cases, the call quality will be very bad, and there will be a lot of lag/breaks in voice and video. They will keep arguing with us that the problem is not from their side, and we have to explain them a lot on this.

2. Equipment used for the class : It is preferred that the student uses a good config PC or Laptop, and one or two additional equipment like a mobile/ Ipad etc. During the class, students should be able to watch our live video, open the documents that we send, and also focus their camera on their keyboard, so that we can view it clearly. Sometimes they have to use 'Metronome' apps on a mobile or a tab. All these can not be done with a single laptop, and that is why we suggest to have one or two additional equipment for the class. Also they should keep the laptop charged before the class, so that there is no break in the class due to low battery.

3.Headphones : While using Laptops, it is advised to use a good headset with mic (best: Microsoft Lifechat Headset series), so that the sound is clear on both sides without any feedback noise.

4.Camera Angle : The student's camera should be set up in such a way that we can see their fingers on the keyboard clearly. We will be watching their fingering throughout the class, as fingering plays a major role. The zoom video given below is an example of a good camera angle., which will solve many issues.
