BMIIWM - Online Music Courses


BM Institute of Indian & Western Music offers Online Music Classes (vocal & instruments) in Carnatic & Western Genres. This provides the opportunity for Indian children living abroad to learn the rich Indian culture and traditions. BMIIWM has been conducting online classes for keyboard & vocal since the year 2002, and childern living abroad have been showing aundant interest in learning music through our structured online classes. Our faculty have around 20+ years of experience in teaching music online through Skype/ Zoom/ Google Meet. It is very easy for even kids from the age of 6 and even for elders to learn keyboard online through our simplified music lessons.

Our Online Courses Details



Level 1 : Introduction to keyboard - keys arrangements, octaves - swaras on the keyboard, counting numbers with rhythm in various tempos. Basic fingering lessons & timing lessons in 1st & 2nd speeds - music notation reading -playing notes in middle, upper & lower octaves. Introduction to some useful functions of keyboard like transpose, tuning, style volume, dual voice, split voice, using various styles etc..


Level 2 : Simple Rhymes, Basics of different speeds in carnatic music, bhajans, devotional songs, patriotic songs, simple cine songs - singing swaras with keyboard, using accompaniment in keyboards, using transpose, dual voice etc in keyboard.

Level 3 : Bhajans, devotional songs, cine songs in 3 beats- songs with bgms, different types of rhythms - using registration memory in keyboard - playing songs with table beats provided by us - playing songs with karaoke - swara identification and ear training - playing song on hearing.

Level 4 : Singing swaras and songs lyrics with keyboard - singing songs with karaoke, identifying sruthi and tempo of songs etc.

Level 5 : Basics of Western notation, comparison of carnatic & western notes, time signatures, comparison of western note lengths with carnatic speeds, western chord theory, chord lessons, and playing chord for simple songs.

Level 6 : Using virtual rhythm machines, and other tools, recording songs with software (audacity)/ basics of editing music, basics of composing music, using midi sequencers like signal midi software, Acoustica Mixcraft etc. Usage of Midiano, Musescore etc.,

Level 7 : Introduction to ragas & thalams - Sarali Varisai - in 5 ragas - in 3 speeds & mixed speeds - singing/playing keyboard with hand thalam - playing with mridhangam rhythm - Jantai Varisai - 2nd & 3rd speeds - Dattu Varisai - in 2nd & 3rd speeds.

Level 8 : Theory of thalas - saptha thala alankaram - in 3 speeds & also mixed speeds - singing alankaram with hand thalam - calculating total aksharas for thalams.

Level 9 : Geethams / Nottuswarams / Swarajathis / Alankarams in different ragas/ Jathiswarams etc.

Level 10 : Varnams 4 - 5 in 2nd and 3rd speeds, and in mixed speeds, Simple keerthanas, pitch recognition and tuning keyboard.

Level 11 : Advanced level keerthanas, pancharatna keerthanas, using the pith bend, playing songs with mridangam app.

Level 12 : Rendering of raga alapana / kalpana swaram/ neraval, song notation writing, improvisations of sangathis in keerthanas.

In this course, we offer 2 options

Option 1 : To learn piano & play your favourite songs with chords, and for performing private music concerts.

Option 2 : To appear for grade exams (practicals) and get certification from recognised Music Colleges/ Institutes like Trinity College London, ABRSM London and RCM Canada etc.


Prerequisite : Students should have completed Western Music Theory (our Course 2) for the corresponding grades.

Basics of Western Music, ukulele fingering/timing lessons, reading sheet music and playing notes

Basics of chords playing on ukulele, playing arpeggio, playing chords with rhythm

Tuning the Ukulele, identifying notes on hearing, gliding the notes on ukulele

Playing simple rhymes, bhajans, devotional songs, patriotic songs, Indian Film songs in Tamil, Telugu & Hindi

Playing simple carnatic songs on ukulele




Level 1 : Sarali Varisai - 1st and 2nd speeds, simple bhajans

Level 2 : Jandai Varisai - 1st and 2nd speeds, bhajans, a few nottuswarams

Level 3 : Dhattu varisai - 1st and 2nd speeds, Upper Octave Lesson - 1st & 2nd speeds, bhajans, a few geethams

Level 4 : Sarali varisai, jandai varisai, dhattu varisai, alankaram - 3rd speed & and mix speeds, lower octave lesson - 1st & 2nd speeds, a few geethams

Level 5 : More geethams - 2nd speed - higher tempos, singing with jalra app mridangam

Level 6 : Nottuswarams, swarajathis & jathiswarams

Level 7 : 5 to 6 Adhithala Varnams - 2nd & 3rd speeds, mix speed

Level 8 : Keerthanas - adhi thalam, roopaka thalam - starting on samam (on the 1st beat)

Level 9 : Keerthanas - adhithalam, roopaka thalam - starting after the 1st beat - 1/2 place, 3/4 place

Level 10 : 2 ata thala varnams, advanced level keerthanas - in adhithalam and other thalams

Level 11 : Thillanas, thiruppugazh, adhithalam - 2 kalai keerthanas

Level 12 : Pancharathna keerthanas

Level 13 : Raga alapana - short and long

Level 14 : Kalpana swaras, neraval


Level 1 : Carnatic swaras on recorder, basic fingering & timing lessons, blowing techniques

Level 2 : Upper & Lower Octave exercises, simple rhymes, bhajans
